On Progress

What is progress?

There seems to be a lot of confusion about this. Having worked in the fitness industry for years and spoken to thousands of people from complete beginners to professional athletes, I've found most people don't really know how to define progress for themselves.

Some people want to be more 'toned'.

Some people want more muscle.

Some people want to lose a significant amount of body fat.

Some people want to be healthier. Some people just want to be strong.

Some people want better endurance.

It's tempting to throw our hands up and say, "progress is different for everyone", but I often hear people redefine progress to justify why they haven't made any. So, let’s try to define fitness!

I define progress as making measurable improvements in the following areas:

1) Body composition (more muscle, less fat)

2) Strength

3) Aesthetics
