Progress should be fun.
Reframing fitness as a game you're trying to beat makes the suck fun.
Once you get it down, even the things that aren't necessarily enjoyable can be fun.
Deliberate Progression is designed to take advantage of the fact that we like challenges. We like games. And we can turn anything into a game. If you're skeptical about that statement, spend 10 minutes with a 5 year old.
What kind of game is fitness?
There's a few different ways to take this.
You can think of it like an arcade game. The game is the gym, and your high score on each exercise is the volume you did the last time you performed that exercise. Aim for a new high score.
You can think of yourself as a character in an RPG. Completing quests. Leveling up your stats. Improving your skills.
Or a dumb phone game you check in to an hour a day. Log in, get your points, keep your streak.
Your body and life can be viewed like your farm in Stardew Valley, where you're always just working to improve your property a little bit every day.
It can be viewed as a puzzle. How delicious can my food be while still fitting my macros?
By reframing your fitness into a game, you give yourself a better chance to remain consistent. The process becomes fun.
